Travel Series: Staff Question Round-Up

Travel Series: Staff Question Round-Up

It's that time again. Everyone around us is travelling, or planning a trip, or talking about "that time in Europe". We've got a serious case of the travel blues. To perk us up, we decided to do a staff question round-up, to share our tips, tricks, hopes and dreams!

Question 1: What's at the top of your travel bucket list?

Nick- Japan. Or Iran. Or... too many places!
Paula- I'd love to visit Southeast Asia, especially Cambodia and Vietnam
Mikyla- Iceland to see the Northern Lights!
Olivia-Peru..to see the Rainbow Mountain

Question 2: What was the most beautiful place you've ever visited?

Nick- Home, Switzerland
Paula- Bled, Slovenia. The landscape is stunning! =)
Mikyla- The Philippines. I'm overdue for some island hopping.
Olivia- The Dolomites in Northeastern Italy. My heart was racing.

Question 3: Tips for planning out a trip?

Nick- Don't try to cram too much in. Over the years I've found that spending more time at fewer places is much more rewarding.
Paula- If you're going to a long solo trip, double check if you booked your accommodation. Always. Haha.
Mikyla- Start saving a lot earlier than you think you need to.
Olivia- Don't plan too much. Just have a general idea of the places you want to see before you get there.

Question 4: What are your travel must have essentials?

Nick- As little as possible! Without lots of bag to lug around, I have more time to appreciate the places and people that I'm there to see.
Paula- My cellphone is on the top of the list for sure. Google Maps has saved my life a couple of times.
Mikyla- Airplane pillow. Enough said.
Olivia- I have a list I always refer back to, but I just added this one: a deck of cards. It's amazing how cards are a version of a universal language.

Question 5: Do you have any tips specifically for solo travellers?

Nick-
Learn the local language, even if it's just the basics. It can help open up a whole new world you would otherwise miss.
Paula- Be positive! A solo trip can be one of the most enjoyable experiences you ever have.
Mikyla- Always leave a copy of your itinerary with friends and family. It's always better to be safe than sorry!
Olivia- Travelling solo is such an incredible experience! As much as I find myself good company, I definitely loved meeting new people along the way. Stay in hostels, be social, go on day trips as a group, etc. Some of my favourite days are those I unexpectedly met someone and spent the whole day together chatting and exploring.
